Salt Lake Express has shuttle service from downtown Salt Lake to West Yellowstone for about $78 each way.Avis (at the Hilton Hotel), Hertz (inside the Marriott) and Hertz on South Main Street are also nearby.Enterprise usually can pick up customers as well, so call the office in advance to make arrangements. Downtown Salt Lake City Enterprise is the closest rental car office to the Salt Lake Central Station - just 11 minutes away if you’re walking.

Salt Lake City to Yellowstone Transportation Options From there, drive time is just under five hours to the West Entrance (which is near the geysers). The best option (and closest Amtrak station to Yellowstone National Park) is Salt Lake Central on the California Zephyr route. However, if you’re willing to drive, take a shuttle or pay extra for an Amtrak vacation package that includes vehicle transportation, then this trip is a great adventure. I know this doesnt help with rude agents, dirty cars, or unavailable cars, but it can help with rates as booked.Like most national parks, Yellowstone National Park is not close to an Amtrak station. I make it clear that I do not want to upgrade to a special, or whatever.

Personally when I travel, I take along copies of my reservation confirmation and insist that I get what I reserved. Over the years, rental companies have become more aggressive and more sneaky about trying to get you to accept insurance by having you sign without reading the fine print, or by trying to upsell you to a 'special'.

Not because its included in our contract with the rental company ,but our compamy prefers to self insure. One thing I always remind non frequent business travelers is that company policy required that they decline all insurance on the rental car if in the US or Canada. I also have traveled a fair amount myself. I book a lot of business travel for my company.
